Welcome to the Amputee WEB Site

This multi-award winning WEB Site is designed primarily to help out amputees on a peer to peer basis. However, friends and families of amputees, doctors, prosthetists, teachers, PE instructors, physical therapists or anyone wanting to know more about amputation, will benefit from using this site.

The Amputee WEB Site is constantly upgraded, so if you see something that is not here and you think it should be, let Ian Gregson know.

BRIEF HISTORY
In October of 1994 the Amputee Listserv was started at St Johns University, New York. As a result of the ongoing success of the Amputee Listserv, the Amputee WEB Site was initiated in October 1995.

Since that time both Amputee Listserv and the Amputee WEB Site(AWS) have developed a somewhat "symbiotic" relationship. The St Johns Amputee Listserv and Amputee WEB Site are designed to work in tandem with each other. With much of the information on the WEB Site first appears on the Amputee Listserv and is then saved to the AWS. The AWS was absorbed by the amputee-online.com domain in 1998 together with Amputation Online magazine [now Amputee Newswire] and the now retired Amputee Shopping Mall. As a result amputee-online.com and its sub domans are the most visited amputee web sites on the internet.

For those wondering why the title "Amputee" web site remains, this site was the first and for some time the "only" web site for amputees, hence the name and lack of change.

Type in the term "amputee" at any major search engine and see why this is the most popular amputee oriented web site on the net.

Hope you enjoy the site and gain something from it.

Sincerely
