Welcome
to the September 2000 Edition of
AOLM
Welcome to the September issue of
Amputation Online magazine.
This issue marks the 4th anniversary
of this online publication. We started
with a vague notion of what amputees on
the net wanted courtesy of the SJU
Amputee mailing list and I think we
have been reasonably on track since
then.
We have covered a lot of ground in
the last four years, but none more
controversial than the July coverage of
the devotee issue. On the whole we have
been praised for the balanced
perspective in the last issue, actually
it was only an interview, the text was
not edited in anyway. The opposite
perspective in this months edition is
similarly an interview situation, but
this time the point of view is entirely
different.
Amputees have always looked for
drug-free alternatives to limit the
effects of phantom pain. One of the
most misunderstood alternatives is
Farabloc, a Canadian made product that
recently received FDA approval for
distribution in the United States. Even
if one does not understand the physics
behind the product the long list of
amputees that have found success with
the product is a good enough reason to
check it out.
This edition is the last before the
2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney,
Australia. We look at some of the top
amputee athletes and their potential
for taking back some heavy metal to
their home countries.
The next edition of AOLM will be the
annual Top Ten Awards issue. You the
consumer have the opportunity to
nominate your favourite product,
service or web site. Whether you are an
amputee or prosthetist, have a little
or lot of knowledge with prosthetic
parts, we look forward to your
nomination. Since the July edition we
have already received about 40
nominations.
Plans are to create a text only
edition of AOLM in 2001, to sign up for
the text version we will post a sign up
area in the November edition.
