Charting the ultimate highs and lows of
disability sport over the last fifty years
was no lightweight event for powerlifter
and author Ian Gregson.
Gregson represented Canada at the 1984
and 1988 Paralympic Games and volunteered
many hours since retirement in 1990. His
own story is one of success and
dissapointment.
"I knew there was a signifcant number
of stories to tell out there" states
Gregson, who lives with his family in
Vancouver, BC. "I met so many great
athletes with so many incredible stories,
it would insulting to them to not let some
of their stories go un-recorded.
Gregson set about interviewing athletes
from all over Canada, which was hampered
by a significant lack of budget. "This was
certainly a labour of love, over two years
of email, telephone calls and faxing went
in to the book" says Gregson.
"A book of this nature has not been
published in Canada since 1976, when
Canada hosted the Paralympics. Its amazing
how things have move on since that time,
let alone the fifty years covered in the
book"
